High expectations have been laid out for the first annual Versilia Yachting Rendez-vous. Nautica Italiana, the driving force behind the new event, and Fiera Milano, which is organizing it, have projected an attendance of 35,000 visitors, 20% of which will be from outside of Italy, and an overall economic impact of €5 to 6.5 million, as explained in Il Giornale and SuperyachtNews.
Organizers also expect 50 businesses to have stands and 100 yachts to participate; they will be moored in a 50,000 square meter area known as the Azimut-Benetti marina. Exposition area will spread 110,000 sq. meters and be divided into four sections: 'Tenders & Toys', 'Italian Coast Excellence' presenting a variety of nautical and touristic services, 'Superyacht Marina' for marina facilities specialized in services for large-sized yachts, and 'Superyacht Equipment and Components,' according to ANSA and La Stampa.
The goal of Versilia Yachting Rendez-vous is to promote "high-end international nautical production...[and] confirm the positive trend of a flourishing global market." It will showcase the area's strong tradition in custom yacht construction and handcrafted quality, as well as its continual innovation with regard to design and technology.
"The industry for yachts over 50 meters has grown 6% in the past year. Viareggio is directly involved in this trend, as the home of a dozen internationally renown brands, more than 1,400 businesses and a considerable portion of megayacht sales. Of 400 boats, about 100 were built by shipyards based in Viareggio - meaning 25% of the total worldwide. Viareggio and Tuscany represent the global hub for yacht construction..." - Vincenzo Poerio, Director of Technology for the port system in Tuscany and CEO of Benetti; translated from source.
Plus, the main road in the Darsena area, Via Coppino, will put the city's and industry's best on display. The Fondazione Altagamma will be helping to schedule an attractive program of satellite events exhibiting the area's best in culture, craftsmanship and creativity, according to Gentedimare. The agenda features a different theme each day (translated from source):

Annual Boat Show Held in Viareggio
Many details have yet to be unveiled, but as of March 1, the city of Viareggio has promised that it will work closely with Fiera di Milano to ensure the success of Versilia Yachting Rendez-vous, an entirely new boat show. During a meeting held by the Tourism Commission, Valter Alberici, the vice mayor of the Viareggio, said that the city hopes to make this an annual event.
"Despite this being year zero, we hope it becomes a foundational event. For this reason, we have be working with the Navigo network, the regional government, port authority and harbormaster," explained Alberici (translated from source).
Governor of Tuscany, Enrico Rossi, also cited the importance of this nautical event for the region's economy. More than 15,000 people in Tuscany are employed by the 2,900 companies working in the shipbuilding supply chain that boasts an annual turnover of €1.5 billion and produces a quarter of the megayachts currently navigating waters around the world, explained Rossi (translated from source).
It seems natural, given Viareggio's importance in the national and global yacht industry, that it would be the host to an annual event. Read more about the signs of economic recovery, particularly in Italy, in Emerging Marketing Trends as Yacht Industry Recovers.
